Subject: Charity softball 1936
This film is of the charity softball game held on Aug 16, 1936 between the FDR White House team and Lowell Thomas' 9 Old Men team. (A reference to FDR's moniker for the Supreme Court).

Lowell Thomas' 9 Old Men consisted of well-known figures from sport, media and politics.

The game was played on Thomas' estate in Pawling NY about 50 miles north of NYC. It was a yearly event that benefited the Red Cross, USO, and other charities and causes.

Lowell Thomas is in swim trunks talking to FDR at the end of this film because the day ended with a swim event.

Images from this event can be found at:

Another film of possibly the same event and location but a different time (maybe 1938) is here at:

Excellent quality footage of softball game with male players, some in costume. Franklin D. Roosevelt drives up in open car.
01:20 FDR, sitting in car, speaks with Lowell Thomas
Many shots of players, spectators, etc., who remain to be identified.
